Started in January 2001, the Durham Belt Line consists of a small group of our members who get together to assemble a large, free-flowing modular layout. With almost 20 modules, the mainline can very easily be over 100 feet long. With no two setups the same, it’s like a different layout every time.
The DBL is a modular system with two main lines located towards the front of the module. Modules are 30″ wide and any length required. When assembled, the Belt Line doesn’t form a loop, but rather a linear shape. This allows the layout to take whichever shape is required by the space allotted for a setup. At each end is a loop of track that turns the train and brings it around on the other track, making the layout a ‘dog bone’-style of layout.
